The five fascinated novice historians - Jon, Megan, Cian, Kate and Ed - kindly had me as a guest in their amazing house in Portland, Oregon for part of Fall 1999. During that period, I've heard their amazing stories about the guy who used to live in the house and left piles of incredible things in their basement: Jack DeMent. His journals, letters, inventions and ideas inspired and puzzled them. They invited people to create their own projects, inspired by Jack's legacy. To me, the most interesting of all was the stories that they told us. I loved to hear them again and again as they introduced Jack DeMent to their friends. So, that's what my project is about: the historians and their stories. -Lenara
