We first heard about Jack DeMent when we were looking for a house and talking to the landlady. We mentioned that we liked weird things, and then she said "if you want something really weird, go down to the basement". She started to talk about Jack and she said "you won't believe it, but his name is actually DeMent". She also told us that his sister was a mortician.

Then we saw all of his writings, his personal letters. He's also in the Who's Who. We read them and found out that he went to Reed for a while, and never graduated from Reed. He started to work for the government instead, studying radioactivity. He was at the Bikini Atoll test.

He had a young girlfriend, and she thougth he was a secret drinker and was concerned about it interfering in their love. We found her letters to him.

He was a member of the local minerological society and a body builder.

He has patents for the "Explotron". It seems to be this huge project he was working on, there's a stack of papers about it, the plans and patent applications.

He wrote letters to the editor of the Oregonian, about all sorts of things, some of them signed by his animals, his cats and dogs.

What I like most are the drawings for his projects, the drafts and detailed pictures that accompanied his papers.

I want to make a video about him, interview the guy next door, see what he remembers. I also want to find out how he died. There are people in the neighboorhood that are still in contact with his mother, we heard. It seems that she would be pretty old. I hope she's still alive. I don't know if his sister is still alive either. We know that his brother lives in the west coast and is a chiropractor. There are many things we need to find out, we haven't done a lot of research yet...
